Mag-Knee-ficent!

Hey all you Crissy Field Center fans! For those of you who have been following the dramatic saga of Roshan's knee, we have good news, and bad news...

First the bad news- Roshan has been diagnosed with Iliotibial Band Syndrome:( Basically there is excessive friction between the knee bones which causes excruciating pain. Her Sports Medicine doc prescribed physical therapy twice a week and (here is the bad news...brace yourselves) told her not to run if it hurts. So, Roshan is out of commission for an indefinite amount of time:(

The Good News -

Chee is going to run the marathon with Roshan strapped to his back, YAY! No but really, Chee will still be training and will make up the service project miles, while also praying for a swift recovery to Roshan's I.T. Band.

We will keep you all posted, bye for now.

The Power of 10

Yesterday, Saturday( Jan 10), the moon was at perigee, the closest point to earth on its orbit. It was said to be the brightest and biggest one in 2009. Sure enough, these pictures was taken this morning, three hours before our first 10-mile, 10 am run of the year. Enjoy!

When the Crissy tides pulled by the gravity of the moon, we too experienced our first low tide of the day - Roshan's knee was hurting during the halfway mark (with intermittent burning pain), and I discovered a $60 parking ticket on my windshield at the end of our run...

Not so much did I finally learn that parking meters are not free on Sunday along the Embarcadero, but most important, what tenacious of a person Roshan truely is. With five remaining miles, when the excruciating pain on her knee seemed unbearable at times, Roshan kept on moving and eventually finished the course with me. Kudos to Roshan! Don't worry, she is find and will have her knee x-rayed; we will keep you posted on the results.

On a much brighter side, we received two more new pledges and four followers on our blogs. A big shoutout to Sarathon, Eddie, Yvea, Nicole, and Donnie for President (do we know you Mr. President?!). As you might be getting ready for your moon dance, here's a fun fact: The moon is moving away as we now breath, by about 1.6 inches (4 centimeters) a year. Eventually this drift will force the moon to take 47 days to circle our world.

Beam on,
Roshan and Chee

New Year Updates and Reflections

Hi all. Chee and I just wanted to update you on new 2009 happenings. First of all, thanks to Josh and Cara for being the very first people to pledge their time towards our marathon training...Great job!

Also, in the next couple days we will be introducing the run-o-meter, which will give a nice visual component to tracking our training progress. The run-o-meter will be located on the staff community board.

Lastly, Chee and I have been drinking a lot of the Good Earth Tea in the library and noticed that the tea bags have little sayings on them. Every now and then, one of us will find one saying that speaks to our experience in some way. Today Chee was drinking Good Earth Original Caffiene Free tea and found one such quote which we will end this entry with.

"The longest journey is the journey inward."-Dag Hammarskjold

To All Crissy Field Center Fans

Happy New Year! We hope you had a enjoyable holiday break. As you might have noticed the countdown ticker to the top right signifies the remaining time until the mighty 2009 San Francisco Marathon descends upon Roshan and Chee. What makes this event very special for us is that it will be our first time running with the Center - Chee's first full-marathon, and Roshan's second. Much more is at stake as we strive to make this meaningful both for us and for the Center! With that in mind, for every 100 miles we train, we invite you to pledge at least four hours to a volunteer service project here in the park with us. Whether it is weeding out the invasive plants at Crissy Field with the Presidio Parks Stewards, or saving the endangered red-legged frogs at Mori Point with the Site Stewardship Program; we need your support. Please join us, together we can cross the finish line! A sign up sheet will be available at the staff community corkboard at the Center's second floor kitchen area. Please don't forget to visit our blog regularly for photos and updates as we will keep you posted on our next 100 milestone!
